Dr. Sergio Vignali Joins Miami County Women’s Center

Vignali HSBoard certified obstetrician/gynecologist Sergio Vignali, M.D., has joined Upper Valley Women’s Center in practice with Katherine Bachman, M.D.; Eunji Seward, M.D.; and Kim Diltz, CNS.

In practice in Florida since 2007, Dr. Vignali said he was looking for a practice and community where there would be very much of a family atmosphere. The smaller setting of Upper Valley Medical Center and the surrounding area fit the bill.

“I like the Midwest. I think I work better in small settings with small community values,” he said. “This is where people know you, smile at you.  I am looking to be more family-oriented.” He said he also likes related services being located close to the hospital, as is the case locally, and the lack of “craziness” found in large cities such as Miami.

Dr. Vignali received his medical degree from the Universidad Central De Venezuela, Luis Razetti School of Medicine in Caracas, Venezuela. He completed a residency in general surgery at Hospital Miguel Perez Carreno in Caracas and a residency in OB/GYN at Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati.

He said he enjoys the medical specialty of Obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) because it allows him to build a relationship with his patients, and because the outcomes are good the majority of the time. “People are happy. You bring new life to the world,” he said with a smile.

He also likes the extended relationship between a patient and OB/GYN versus some fields where patient contact is limited to a short timeframe.  In Venezuela he worked more in the latter, in trauma surgeries.

“I enjoy that you can build relationships with your patients in this field. You get to know them, their families, their situations. You are more involved, and possibly can help them better,” he said.

Dr. Vignali is experienced in performing laparoscopic surgeries and is trained in robotic surgery – an area he plans to pursue further.

He described himself as “very goal-oriented,” finishing one project and having another one ready to roll.  “I like to strive for excellence,” he said. “I always want things to be better for the patient.”

“I became a doctor because I have always wanted to try to help people. That should be why people are in this business,” Dr. Vignali said.

In his free time, Dr. Vignali enjoys spending time with his 11-year-old daughter and likes playing tennis, biking and hiking among other outdoor activities.  He is currently working on obtaining a private pilot’s license.
