April 2014 Employee of the Month
Kristy Walker’s efforts to see a patient’s wish become reality contributed to her selection as UVMC’s Employee of the Month for April.
Kristy joined the UVMC family in 2000, working in the Cancer Care Center. Among her duties are inserting peripherally inserted central catheters, administering chemotherapy and other infusions and therapeutic phlebotomies and injections.
Those nominating Kristy for Employee of the Month pointed to her efforts in facilitating a young cancer patient’s wish.
“She went above and beyond her normal high level of caring for patients,” they wrote. “She was able to arrange, due to her dedication, for the funding/raising money to send her (patient’s) family to a Michigan football game.” The effort allowed the patient, her husband and son to attend.
“It was very inspiring to see Kristy involve the whole staff to make this happen for the patient and family,” the nominators wrote.
Kristy said the aspects of her work that she enjoys the most include “patient care and interaction and working with a great staff.”
When not at work, she enjoys spending time with family including her grandchildren, Eli, Brayden and Lilly and, she added, “Hopefully many more.”
