August 2012 Employee of the Month
Lori Kirk’s positive outlook and willingness to chip in were highlighted in a successful nomination for Employee of the Month.
Lori, who joined the UVMC family in October 1981, is a respiratory therapist in the Cardiopulmonary Department.
Her job responsibilities include giving breathing treatments, drawing arterial blood gases, working with ventilators, stress testing and Holter monitoring.
“Lori is always cheerful and explains what will be happening. If a patient has questions or problems, she always gets the patient an answer or explanation,” a co-worker wrote in the nomination. “She is a very positive influence on our department. She makes me a better person just by being around her.”
Lori said when she chose respiratory therapy as a career, she made the right choice. She enjoys working with patients of all ages, the variety of tasks she performs and working with great coworkers. “I enjoy my work so it doesn’t feel like ‘a job,’” she said.
When not at work, she enjoys spending time with husband, Steve, and their three grown children, Lindsay, Kelsi and Logan. The family loves sporting events and she and her daughters love to shop. She also likes to read and visit the beaches in Florida.
