May 2014 Employee of the Month
Steve Bowles is described by coworkers as approachable and caring in his dealings with both staff and patients of the Adult Behavioral Health Unit. Such characteristics led to Steve’s selection as the UVMC Employee of the Month for May.
Steve works as a therapist in the unit. His responsibilities include performing individual, group and family therapies and serving as part of the therapeutic treatment team.
Steve joined the UVMC family as a therapist in Youth Services in April 1990 and later worked by contract with the Vandalia-Butler Schools for 15 years. He began therapist duties in Adult Behavioral Health in July 2012.
“Steve is always respectful and caring with each and every one of our patients. He is always encouraging them and helping them to find ways to heal and grow, helping them find reasons to live,” one co-worker wrote. Another said he always has a positive, uplifting attitude and always is willing to help co-workers.
“I still enjoy counseling in a professional capacity on an in-patient setting. I work with an excellent staff of professionals who are dedicated, skilled, compassionate and well-deserving of recognition,” Steve said. “The team is what collectively creates the client-impact and I hope to represent them well during the month of May and beyond.”
Steve has played guitar since seventh grade and plays in a band at his church and with his friend every other month at a local restaurant.
He and his wife, Terry, enjoy camping and the out of doors; friends; and doing things with their adult children (two daughters and a son), son-in-law and 3 –year- old granddaughter.
