Incontinence Therapy
Incontinence Therapy is a conservative, non-surgical approach to treatment of incontinence (involuntary loss of bladder or bowel control) commonly caused by infections, pregnancy, surgery and obesity. Older children (age 7 and above) who experience nighttime wetting and female athletes who experience incontinence can also benefit from incontinence therapy. The program advocates a self-help approach consisting of exercise, dietary modification, relaxation techniques and biofeedback. (Biofeedback helps a person locate and isolate the muscles important for bladder and/or bowel control.) Our specially trained physical therapist will teach you simple exercises that will help you overcome incontinence. The program can typically be mastered in 2 to 6 weeks. For further information, please call the UVMC Center for Sports Medicine at 667-2614.
