September 2009 Employee of the Month

September 2009 EOMCo-workers say Becky Ayers, the UVMC Employee of the Month for September, is an inspiration in the workplace.  Becky, nursing policy coordinator in the Nursing Services Office, joined the UVMC team in September 2000.  She worked in Occupational Health, reporting drug screen results to employers and assisting in the office, until moving to the hospital and the nursing office in October 2006.

“Becky truly exemplifies the true Caring Plus role model.  She always does her job with a smile on her face. She always goes out of her way to help others.  She shares her infectious laughter with all of UVMC,” wrote one co-worker.  “Stop by for ‘a dose of Becky,’” said another who nominated her for Employee of the Month.  “She is an inspiration to all who know her.”

Becky said her job provides the opportunity to do varied duties and work with many groups, such as Shared Governance meetings, Clinical Practice Council and Quality/  Safety Council.

“I am privileged to work with some of the greatest people who exemplify the Caring Plus attitude,” Becky said.  “Work here is never boring and there is always some task that needs completion.  Time never stands still here.”

She and husband, Art, have been married for 41 years.  They are the parents of two children, one who passed away in 2005.  They have five grandchildren, with whom they enjoy spending time.  The couple also enjoys travel and visiting wine trails with friends.

“I have learned that life is pretty much what you want it to be.  I try to make every day my best day and they just keep getting better,” Becky said.  “We learned, with the loss of our son, that every day is precious and you just have to seize the good moments and make them last.  How can life be any better than it is right now?”
