Miami East High School Lady Vikings Volleyball team is UVMC Team of the Month
The Miami East High School Lady Vikings Volleyball team is being recognized as the UVMC Center for Sports Medicine’s Team of the Month for November.
The team enjoyed the school volleyball team’s first winning season both in league and overall play in 10 years. It also was a sectional finalist for the first time in a decade.
When not concentrating on the court, team members participated in the Susan G. Komen Foundation Volley for the Cure match, raising $1,800 that was donated to breast cancer research.
Head Coach John Cash said participation in the Komen program fund-raising was suggested as a way for the girls to go beyond their work as a team.
Parents and other students were invited to help in the fund-raising, which Cash said ended up raising the largest amount in the state program this year. “We were pretty excited about that,” he said.
“They (team members) put everything into it, that is for sure,” Cash said of the fund-raising effort.
Team members were Callie Boitnott, Lottie Hageman, Whitney Kindell, Hannah Mengos, Morgan Decker, Taylor James, Kelsey Vanchure, Leah Dunivan, Allie Millhouse, Christine Bowling and Abby Cash.
The team’s head coach was Cash. Lori Smith was the assistant coach.
