UVMC Recognizes Volunteers for 38,805 Hours of Service

4/10 Recognition - VolunteerUVMC said “thank you” to special members of the organization’s family – its volunteers – during the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on April 14.

During 2009, more than 190 volunteers completed 38,805 hours of service to UVMC.

Contributing to this achievement were more than 80 volunteers honored at the luncheon.  Each had achieved a new milestone in their cumulative hours of service.

The volunteers were thanked by Michael Maiberger, UVMC president/CEO; Tom Parker, executive vice president/COO; and Robin Fisher, manager, volunteer services.

Maiberger said UVMC could not operate without the help of its volunteers, whose contributions will become even more important as health care continues to change.

“We are going to need you more than ever,” he said. “The best advertisement we get is people like you who care enough to give of your valuable time and help us out.”

Among those honored were Olive Beanblossom for 19,500 hours; Catherine Bohm, 17,500 hours; Juanita Petry, 14,000 hours; Margaret Attenweiler, 12,000 hours; Mary Lou Fannin, 11,000 hours; Betty Gerken, 10,500 hours; Joyce Carpenter, 8,500 hours; Marion King, 8,000 hours; Eleanor Sweigart and Dorie Perry, 7,500 hours; Norman Warner, 6,000 hours; and Vera Jenkins and Ken Schwartz, 5,000 hours.

Also earning recognition were George Anderson, Dee Collins, James Hunt, Kathryn Mote, Jean Thornton, 4,500 hours; Luther Baden, Marjorie Brown, Lynn Jenkins, Pat Jordan, Gwen Manning, 4,000 hours; Kathleen Smith, 3,500 hours; William Christie, Robert Jenkins, 3,000 hours; and Henrietta Baden, Linda Bernard, Richard Daniel, Shirley Jamison, Allan Miller, Stephen Raynes, 2,500 hours.

Five volunteers were recognized for 2,000 hours of service; nine for 1,500 hours; five for 1,000 hours; eight for 500 hours; seven for 300 hours; and 15 for 100 hours.

For their volunteer services, Kristen Avey, Ricky Berryhill, Laura Knoop, Samantha Rosengarten and Melissa Schultz were awarded a Community Service Certificate.

The week of April 18-24 was National Healthcare Volunteer Week.
