July 2010 Employee of the Month
Lisa Baker’s caring approach in her daily dealings with patients as well as co-workers has earned her recognition as the July 2010 Employee of the Month.
A staff chaplain in the Pastoral Care department, Lisa was hired as a chaplain resident in December 2005 and worked as a pool chaplain before being promoted to part-time. She accepted a full-time position in February 2008.
Lisa provides spiritual support to patients, their families and staff, often in crisis situations. She leads a spiritual wellness group in Behavioral Health for adults, adolescents and children and serves on the Ethics, Employee Communications and Department Patient Safety Officer committees.
“Lisa is a thoughtful and well- informed co-worker, someone who can easily
answer questions about policy and procedure as well as others relating to the job,” said the person who nominated her. “She understands interdepartmental relations probably better than anyone I have ever worked with. She also cares deeply about patients and staff.”
Lisa said she loves her work, “but far and away the best part is the people I work with. That begins with my department, which is a supportive environment. I also enjoy the relationships with so many kind people in the different disciplines and departments. The people here are what makes UVMC a great place to work.”
Lisa and her husband of 29 years, Norman, live on a small farm where they tend a “huge” organic garden and raise goats and chickens. They have a daughter, Aliah, a son-in-law, Tony, and granddaughter, Layla.
Lisa likes to read, cook, write and sew; meet girlfriends for coffee to “solve everyone’s problems;” and just hang out with her dogs Parker and Boo.
