November 2010 Employee of the Month

Lois Mayberry’s personal touch when dealing with fellow UVMC employees and visitors was among attributes cited by co-workers of the November Employee of the Month.

Lois provides administrative secretarial support for the director and supervisory staff of Rehabilitation Services, for the head injury and stroke community support groups, and for various patient safety committees.

“Lois adds a personal touch to her messages such as ‘have a great weekend.’ I love getting phone calls from Lois – they are always warm and personable,” the person who nominated her wrote.

She was commended for performing “highly professional, top quality work” and taking that extra step such as walking people to their destination versus providing verbal directions. Her coordination of the annual department holiday snacks exchange also was praised.

Lois listed “caring co-workers, supportive supervisor and the opportunity to offer words of encouragement to our Rehab patients as they strive to reach their therapeutic goals” as what she likes the most about her job.

When not at work, Lois pursues music as a relaxation activity. She is in her 55th year of serving as a church organist/pianist.

She said she has “been blessed with many opportunities to provide organ music at weddings and funerals, and to accompany vocalists and provide special music with other accomplished keyboard players and school-age children who play instruments in their school bands.”

She also has shared her keyboard talent with Rehab patients and nursing home residents.
