January 2011 Employee of the Month
Barb Schenk’s ability to maintain pleasant approaches to her job in collections and in interactions with coworkers were keys in her selection as the January 2011 Employee of the Month. Barb is a collections specialist in the Upper Valley Professional Corp. billing office. She joined the UVMC family in 1991, working in cash application and as a financial representative before moving to UVPC in insurance follow up and then collections.
“She deals with a lot of different situations and is always professional and helpful to the patients. We have people unable to pay because of circumstances beyond their control and Barb works to see if there are any programs or assistance she can help them with in order to get their bill paid,” said the person who nominated Barb.
“It takes someone special to deal with the pressures of the job … but her attitude never changes,” the nominator added “She is always pleasant and she is also this way with her co-workers.”
Barb said she has worked for some “great” managers and likes “being able to help patients who have lost their jobs and cannot pay their bills.”
Barb teaches Sunday school and considers herself lucky to have great friends, with whom she talks, plays cards, shops, goes to the movies and dines out. Later this year, Barb plans to move to Colorado to be near her daughter and son-in-law, a sister and nephews.
