March 2011 Employee of the Month

Cindy Mullennix’s Caring Plus attitude is conveyed to people who know her, or often don’t, over the telephone.  An operator in the Telecommunications Department, Cindy’s approach to her job led to her nomination and selection as the March 2011 Employee of the Month.

A UVMC employee since December 1998, she answers phones, processes alarms, pages doctors, prints badges and contacts Hospice.

“Cindy is very kind.  Her smile comes over the telephone when she greets you,” the person who nominated her wrote.  “Cindy is a tremendous asset to UVMC. She has to interact with patients, their families, co-workers and vendors.  She is kind to everyone and very helpful.”  Cindy said it is rewarding to help callers find their doctors or to help them decide what department they need at the hospital.

“I try to be a calming, cheery voice to comfort the callers.   I especially like working with Hospice.  Helping people with hospice in their most stressful of situations is very comforting,” she said.  Cindy said she likes the fact that her department is “like a little family in itself” with people willing to help each other in case of illness or another problem.  When not at work, Cindy enjoys spending time with her children, grandchildren and her parents.   She also likes to read and crochet.
