May 2011 Employee of the Month
Anita Aycock’s willingness to “think outside the box” and her prompt, detailed follow through on requests for assistance are among qualities that led to her nomination and selection as Employee of the Month for May.
Anita joined the UVMC family in 1985 as a “bench” tech on third shift at Piqua Memorial Medical Center. Her job was to collect specimens, process, test, troubleshoot analyzers and report results to the nursing staff and physicians.
For the past 19 years, she has worked with UVMC Laboratory Information System. Among her tasks are building and maintaining the laboratory portion of the Clinical Information System and educating the more than 70 members of the laboratory staff in computer use. She has implemented Positive Patient Identification devices for the laboratory and nursing, and has built notification rules for infection control, pharmacy and imaging.
Anita also is a member of the build and implementation team for the Epic conversion.
“Anita is very willing to help others and goes out of her way to follow up with people in other departments to ensure that the new process is working efficiently,” a person who nominated her wrote. “She is a wonderful ambassador for the laboratory and I think that UVMC as a whole is lucky to have her as an employee.”
Anita said she likes being a “face” for the laboratory. “I enjoy the challenges of the job. There is always something to be changed or improved upon,” she said.
Anita and Brian, her husband of 34 years, enjoy gardening, travel, scuba diving and socializing with friends. They have two grown children, Erin and Zachary.
