June 2011 Employee of the Month

Karla Kuhn’s communication skills, including a warm welcome for patients, families, visitors, volunteers and staff, helped lead to her selection as the Employee of the Month for June.

Karla is a health unit coordinator for surgical services. Among her responsibilities are front desk customer service support, coordinating pre-admission testing scheduling surgery, as needed.

She joined the UVMC family in 2006 and previously worked in outpatient and ED registration and as a Hyatt Family Care scheduler.

“She is always very positive and helpful to all.  I have heard patients and their families walk by her desk and tell her ‘Thank you for everything today,’” the person who nominated Karla wrote. “She is definitely a Caring Plus and AIDET role model for all.”

Meeting and greeting UVMC’s patients every day and working with great doctors and an excellent team of staff and volunteers is what she likes most about her job, Karla said. She also said she has a great manager who supports the team.

“I love my job here at UVMC. It gives me great joy to come in to such a great work place,” she said.

When she’s not at work, Karla said she enjoys spending time with her husband of 20 years, Aaron, and their son, Mason, 13.
