July Employee of the Month

A co-worker says that Denise Pflieger makes people feel they are welcome and in good hands while maintaining a fully professional standard.

Denise, a medical technologist in the UVMC Lab, is the July 2011 Employee of the Month. 

She has been employed at the hospital nine years.

In her job on the second shift, Denise tests blood and other body fluids on many different analyzers, cross matches blood for transfusions and performs a number of manual tests.

“She goes above and beyond to provide the best care possible and, more importantly, is willing to help others in need, to help them perform their best,” a co-worker wrote in the nomination.  “I’ve seen her treat physicians and colleagues with a great AIDET attitude by providing time frames of patient testing and acknowledging any possible delays that may occur.  I would trust her to care for any of my family members.”

Denise said she enjoys various aspects of her job such as analyzer maintenance and finding and helping to diagnose new cases. 

“I am part of many hardworking, dedicated people in the lab. We take a lot of pride in what we do,” she said.   “Our technology is top of the line. The patient is getting exactly what they deserve – the best.”

A medtech for 33 years, Denise said she has worked in many labs, adding, “ours is truly one of the best.”

When not at work she enjoys reading, interior decorating, motorcycle riding, watching forensics shows on TV and spoiling her two grandchildren.
