August 2011 Employee of the Month
Don LeVan is known for doing whatever it takes to get the job done.
Don’s willingness to work with others, a calm demeanor and his going the extra step such as serving as a Project SEARCH mentor all contributed to his selection as the August Employee of the Month.
He first came to UVMC in summer 1991, working on the grounds crew while still in high school. He was hired full time in 1992 in Dettmer transport and worked in patient transport until 2002 when he started work in the storeroom. He joined the Rehab care team in 2005 as a rehab care tech. He assists therapists with inpatient and outpatient therapy treatment, schedules rehab patients and assists with rehab business office tasks, as needed.
“Don does whatever it takes to get the job done, particularly in assisting therapy staff with patient therapies, willingly assisting with patient care when called upon in emergent situations and working closely with the rehab co-worker in enforcing infection/prevention control policies to assure a clean and safe rehab environment,” the person who nominated Don wrote. Don said he enjoys the “great teamwork” he experiences. He said he’s often teased by coworkers, who claim he knows everyone at UVMC.
A sports fan, Don and his wife, Amy, have two children, Ryan and Emma.
