December 2011 Employee of the Month

Matt Zimmermann’s quick smile and calming manner with patients helped lead to his selection as the Employee of the Month for December.

Matt is an MRI technologist in the Imaging Department.  He said his job involves manipulating data to obtain highly detailed images of different anatomy for the interpretation by a radiologist.

A UVMC employee since 1999, he first worked two years in Radiology, taking X-Rays for the Emergency Department, Surgery and Outpatient.

“Matt is very good with patients and helps them feel calm and comfortable.  He smiles and introduces himself to the patients and family members,” the person who nominated him said. 

The nominator recalled how well Matt worked with her “very nervous” son when he was taken to the ED with a foot injury.  She said Matt was gentle and friendly and explained everything that would happen.  He also explained how soon results would be available and shared with them, the nominator said.

Matt said he loves to challenge himself and look for new and unique ways to offer more to patients than they might expect. “I like the fact that we are all on a team, and that when the patient leaves happy, we win,” Matt said. 

He said he enjoys all of the team members.

When he is not at work, Matt enjoys spending free time with family, relaxing on the beach, running trail/obstacle runs, landscaping and investing.
