May 2012 Employee of the Month

Christina Wheeldon’s pairing in her work of a cool head with a compassionate heart helped lead to her selection as the UVMC Employee of the Month for May.

Christina is a staff nurse on 2 Central. She joined the UVMC family in June 2008 as a PCT, a job she held until becoming a registered nurse on Dec. 1, 2010.

The person who nominated Christina recounted how she, as a new RN on a new unit, encountered a difficult situation involving a patient and family.

“She followed all policies, soothed many ruffled feathers, calmed angry people … all to care for this patient and her family,” the nominator wrote. “Christy kept a cool head and a compassionate heart. She did a great job and is a very good nurse.”

Christina said she does whatever she can to make patients feel comfortable as possible. The best part of her job, she said, is “caring for others and making differences in their lives.”

When not at work, Christina said she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also is attending Ohio University, working toward her bachelor of science in nursing degree.
