October 2012 Employee of the Month

Ralph Mills knows the value of team work.

So do his co-workers, who cited Ralph’s team work spirit in a nomination that led to his selection as the October 2012 Employee of the Month.

Ralph, an RN, has worked at UVMC since September 2007. He first worked on the J/K Pod until April 2008 when he joined the OR staff. He is a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, Epic trainer and updates Surgeon Preference Cards.

“Ralph goes out of his way to help others – never feeling ‘put out,’” a coworker said. “He is an Epic trainer that has gone over and above what was expected. He never lost sight of what was still most important – the patient.”

Ralph said he enjoys working in a specialized area with a wide variety of surgical procedures.

“I have the privilege of working with a great OR staff who have helped me grow as an OR nurse,” Ralph said. “I worked at Honda for 23 years where there was great team work. We have that same team work here in the OR, which makes it a great environment for excellent patient care.”

When not at work, Ralph enjoys spending time with his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter and is looking forward to a grandson’s arrival in December.
