Septmeber 2013 Employee of the Month
Bambi Owens’ positive attitude around patients and coworkers and her comforting approach to patients and families were among factors that led to her selection as the Employee of the Month for September. A RN, she is a surgical nurse in the Surgery Department.
Bambi joined the UVMC family in March 1977 working as a nurses’ aide and filling in on multiple tasks including operating the switch board at Piqua Memorial Hospital She became a surgical tech in 1988, a registered nurse in same day surgery in 1992 and a registered nurse in surgery in 1992.
A coworker who nominated Bambi said she is caring to patients and coworkers and always willing to take on a new challenge.
“She allows every patient and family the time they need to feel comfortable before surgery. Bambi is always timely and considerate when updating family members,” the co-worker wrote. “Bambi uses her experience to ensure a safe and efficient operating room experience for the OR team and the patient.”
Bambi said she likes the diversity of working in the operating room every day. She said she likes getting to know patients before surgery. “It makes it more personal and caring,” she said.
She volunteers for Health Partners of Miami County and is on the board of House of Hope, a home for troubled teen girls.
Bambi said she loves the outdoors. When not at work she and her supportive husband of 33 years, Steve, like to spend time in their camper at Arrowhead Campgrounds in New Paris. Bambi said she also enjoys spending time with her grandson, Jonathan, and hanging out with her best friend and neighbor, Diana.
