(June 15, 2015) - The John J. Dugan Memorial Fund for Cancer Care continues to allow the UVMC Cancer Care Center to offer a variety of services to patients. John J. Dugan was an area businessman and Miami County commissioner who was treated at UVMC prior to his death from cancer in 2003. His family chose to honor him through support of the cancer care center.

This year’s John J. Dugan Memorial Reception for Cancer Care was held June 11 at the Shady Spring Stables of David and Clarice Francis.

The event raised $60,000, the most in the event’s 11 years. Over the years, the fund has raised more than $500,000.

“We are very proud that this event continues to get great local financial support after 11 years. The local community is really supporting their local cancer center, which is a fantastic facility,” said Dugan’s son, Brian Dugan.

Jean Dugan, Dugan’s wife, said she is pleased to have the facility in Miami County, close to home for patients. “As the years go by, more and more people who have been supporting this event find themselves or a loved one coming to the John J. Dugan Infusion Center,” Jean Dugan said.

“The feedback I have heard is always so positive. This is exactly what our goal was, to have a facility that would give comfort and support along with excellent professional care,” she said. “We need to continue to spread the word that this wonderful cancer care center is here in our community.”

In addition to this year’s venue, the following area residents have opened their homes to host the event: Bill and Wanda Lukens, Henry and Linda Ernst, Dr. Norman and Georgia Armstrong, Tom Hagan, Brent Black, Greg and Laura Stephens, Dave and Sally Waibel and Stacy and Benny Scott. The John J. Dugan Infusion Center first hosted the event as part of its opening in 2012 and again in 2014.
