TROY (August 22, 2016) - Dr. Jeffery Adam and Dr. Stewart Adam III bring a shared family history and a love of caring for patients to Upper Valley ENT Associates.

The father-son practice opened a few months ago at 31 Stanfield Road, Troy.

Father Jeffery Adam, MD, is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Jefferson Medical College, Pa. Stewart Adam III, MD, is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Jeffery Adam did his residency training through The Ohio State University while Stewart Adam’s residency was completed at Yale University.

They continue a family tradition of specializing in otolaryngology that spans to Jeffery’s father, Stewart Adam Sr., who practiced 35 years, as well as Jeffery’s brother, Stewart Adam Jr.

Jeffery’s wife and Stewart III’s mother, Dr. Wynn Adam is a recently retired radiologist in the Dayton area.  Stewart Adam III has been married to his wife Althea for six years.

Drs. Jeffery and Stewart Adam III were involved in the same Dayton area practice for about 18 months before opening Upper Valley ENT Associates.

They not only are partners in practice but literally share the same office with desks a few feet apartment, making consultations convenient.

Dr. Jeffery Adam said his interest in the specialty can be traced, in large part, to his father. “He seemed to be content in his practice,” he said. Dr. Jeffery Adam also was attracted by the specialty allowing him to care for patients “from cradle to grave” and offering a nice work balance between seeing patients in the office and surgery.

Dr. Stewart Adam III said once he decided on pursuing a medical career, he took a look at ENT/otolaryngology.

“ENTs always seem to be happy in practice and can have lifestyle balance with it,” Stewart Adam III said. He said the head and neck anatomy was of interest to him and he enjoys interactions with other surgeons including those specializing in the spine and neurosurgeries. “It is neat working with the other doctors,” he said.

The doctors said working together as father and son has its advantages.

“We see each other every day. We have operated together several times since we have been up here (Miami County),” Dr. Jeffery Adam said.

Dr. Stewart Adam III had a number of options for using his skills, he said.   “I feel blessed I had my son follow in my footsteps, and then in practice with me … It provides affirmation his mother and I did something right. We are very fortunate to have that relationship,” Dr. Jeffery Adam said.

The doctors said they have found working at Upper Valley Medical Center a positive experience. The hospital “has bent over backward to welcome and accommodate us,” Dr. Jeffery Adam said, adding that they like the friendliness of the community.

“The patients and people we work with at Upper Valley are genuinely appreciative we are there to help,” Dr. Stewart Adam III said. “It feels great to be valued and appreciated.”

While the father and son share many professional interests, they don’t agree on one issue: favorite college sports teams. Dr. Jeffery Adam is a long-time fan of The Ohio State University, while Dr. Stewart Adam III said he’s followed the University of Michigan for years.
