Neonatal Care

Some newborns need more specialized care. We have a Level II Special Care Nursery to deliver the care these babies need to help them get a good start on life.

Level II Special Care Nursery

Upper Valley Medical Center’s (UVMC) Level II Special Care Nursery cares for newborns that need more specialized care. Physicians and nurses are experienced in treatments to address high-risk conditions such as prematurity, infection and respiratory distress. All physicians and nurses in the Family Birth Center are certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics' Neonatal Resuscitation Program.

Conditions we manage include:

  • Low birth weight
  • Genetic conditions
  • Respiratory difficulties
  • Infections
  • Drug dependence

This special nursery gives expectant parents an extra level of assurance. The Level II Nursery is always open. Parents may visit their baby anytime, day or night.

Full-time neonatologists from The Children's Medical Center of Dayton are available to respond to the needs of seriously-ill newborns. Infants can be quickly transported to one of Ohio’s most experienced Level IIIB neonatal intensive care units if needed.

Private Postpartum Suites

After your baby is born, you move from the birthing suite to a quiet, spacious room in our postpartum wing. Our postpartum suites allow your family to remain together following the delivery of your little one.

Postpartum suites feature:

  • Comfortable bed
  • Private shower
  • Modern furnishings
  • Wooden crib
  • Access to our nutrition center

Nursing care is provided in-room. Our highly-trained maternity staff supports you and your baby through all phases of labor, delivery, recovery and the postpartum period.

“Rooming In”

We encourage moms and babies to be together as much as possible during these first few days. With our rooming-in program, nurses care for you and your baby in the comfort of your own room.

For your convenience, our nursery is always open. And, we are more than happy to take care of your little one while you rest.

As part of our family-centered approach, visitation from loved ones is encouraged during your stay. We provide a large, comfortable waiting area for family and friends.

We ask all visitors use the Maternity entrance. This entrance is located at the southwest end of the hospital.
